Job Description
Position Summary:
The Digital Engineering position is responsible for supporting the research, design, development, integration, and testing of advanced aerospace and engineering systems through the application of digital engineering tools, models, and processes. This role contributes to the development and lifecycle management of aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, satellites, and related systems by integrating digital technologies to support system design, analysis, verification, and performance optimization. Responsibilities may include supporting subsystem integration activities involving power, communications, thermal control, guidance, and other critical aerospace functions while ensuring alignment with technical and program requirements.
This role works to achieve key project and program objectives while managing projects or processes that span multiple technical disciplines. The Digital Engineering professional develops innovative solutions to complex technical challenges impacting multiple systems or operational areas and applies advanced analytical and engineering methods to improve system performance, integration, and lifecycle efficiency. The position requires strong collaboration across engineering and program teams, along with creativity and technical expertise to develop and implement effective digital engineering solutions that support mission and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply systems engineering, systems modeling, product lifecycle management, and related techniques, tools, and methodologies to construct, steward, curate, and leverage end-to-end digital content.
- Exercise thought leadership and practical systems engineering application that enables the evolution of repeatable systems engineering approach that uses MBSE principles and practice.
- Engage in cross-organizational discussions with subject matter experts and stakeholders concerning the development of technical aspects of the system.
- Identify, understand, track and manage technical program dependencies.
- Ensure end-to-end traceability between high-level mission requirements and detailed design data across different lifecycle phases.
- Support design reviews technical documentation, and configuration management processes.
- Manage centralized data models that all stakeholders use for real-time collaboration.
- Develop, implement, and maintain digital engineering environments, architectures, and integrated toolchains supporting the system lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Master’s degree with 6+ years of prior relevant experience.
- Demonstrated skills necessary to use MBSE digital engineering modeling tools to develop, modify and assess architecture models.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and SysML modeling tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, or Enterprise Architect.
- Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and architecture frameworks such as Unified Architecture Framework (UAF)
- Knowledge of digital engineering concepts including digital thread, digital twin, data integration, and lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and energetic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience supporting digital engineering, systems engineering, software engineering, or related technical programs.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or managing complex, multi-disciplinary programs.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functional teams, open communication, and willingness towork in a pair-programming style collaborative work environment.
- Experience supporting DoD, federal government, or large-scale aerospace and defense programs using Digital Engineering methodologies.
- Experience with digital thread, digital twin, simulation environments, and enterprise-level data integration architectures.
- Knowledge of DoD Digital Engineering Strategy, MBSE implementation frameworks, NIST cybersecurity standards, and DevSecOps best practices.
