  • The Role:This role is for someone who manages oncology registry data and reporting for healthcare records and compliance requirements.
  • The Person:The person will abstract cancer cases, resolve EDITs, submit and follow up registry records, maintain logs and suspense systems, and update patient information in the registry database.
  • Requirements:The ideal candidate knows cancer data abstracting, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, biostatistics and epidemiology, ICD-O, AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, SEER Coding and Staging Manual, Collaborative Staging, SEER Rx Database, and HIPAA-HITECH standards.

About the role

Summary/Objective
The Oncology Data Specialist is responsible for accurately reporting detailed information from the electronic medical record into the registry software system. Will ensure compliance with State, national and client specific data reporting. Performance of Case finding, follow-up, cancer conferences/tumor board, and reporting may be other job duties.

  • Knowledge of cancer and its management, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, biostatistics and epidemiology, cancer data abstracting, database record management, cancer program management, and cancer registry procedures.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Demonstrate ability to self-motivate, set goals, and meet deadlines.

  • Maintain courteous and professional working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrate excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Adherence with both client and Omega specific quality and productivity standards, and detail specific data abstraction.

  • Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing a variety of software applications. 

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, abstracting compliance and HIPAA-HITECH standards affecting medical records and the impact on reimbursement and accreditation.
