Innovasea | Aquatic Solutions Built for LifeÂ
Ready to join a passionate team committed to a more sustainable future? Innovasea (pronounced In-no-va-see) is at the forefront of revolutionizing aquaculture solutions and advancing the science of fish tracking. We provide complete end-to-end solutions to improve sustainable fish farming and better understand and preserve our marine and freshwater habitats.
When you work at Innovasea, you join a group of over 250 employees committed to our values of authenticity, collaboration, commitment, innovation and stewardship. As a member of the team, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of an organization relentlessly committed to building a better tomorrow.Â
About the role
If you are passionate about building technology that makes a real difference, this is the team for you. We’re looking for a Computer Vision Engineer (Algorithm Development) to join an energetic team in Canada to shape the next generation of ocean farming products using underwater perception, 3D vision, and modern deep learning.Â
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the VP of Aquaculture Technology, you will lead the design, development, evaluation, and deployment of computer vision algorithms that power real-time perception and analytics in challenging underwater environments.Â
ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Design and implement computer vision and deep learning algorithms for underwater applications (detection, tracking, segmentation, pose/key points, 3D reconstruction)Â
- Develop robust underwater image enhancement and domain adaptation approaches (color correction, dehazing, low-light, turbidity robustness)Â
- Create scalable training and evaluation pipelines: dataset curation, labeling workflows, augmentation, model trainingÂ
- Define and track algorithm KPIs (accuracy, precision/recall, tracking stability, 3D error, latency, throughput) and run ablation studies to drive continuous improvementÂ
- Optimize models for real-time deployment on edge hardware (Jetson / GPU): quantization, pruning, TensorRT, batching, pipeline profilingÂ
- Collaborate with software/hardware teams to integrate models into production systems (APIs, streaming pipelines, monitoring, versioning, rollback strategies)Â
- Work with marine biology and ocean engineering stakeholders to ensure outputs support fish well-being, operational excellence, and scientific validityÂ
- Travel domestically/internationally for R&D site work, system validation, and customer visitsÂ
- We’re seeking a self-starter who enjoys hands-on work, thrives with occasional ambiguity, and can collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate customer and field needs into robust algorithms and measurable performance improvements.Â
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in computer vision + deep learning: object detection, instance/semantic segmentation, multi-object trackingÂ
- Proven experience building training/evaluation pipelines: dataset management, augmentation strategies, class imbalance handling, metrics design, test set hygiene, regression testing for models, experiment reproducibility and trackingÂ
- Proficient in Python for ML development and C++ for production integrationÂ
- Hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks: PyTorch (preferred)Â
- Experience with deployment/optimization: TensorRT / ONNX, mixed precision, quantization, performance profiling, latency/throughput optimizationÂ
- Strong software engineering fundamentals:Â clean architecture, modular code, testing, CI/CD basicsÂ
- Git-based workflows, code review cultureÂ
- Excellent communication and collaboration across functions:Â ability to convert ambiguous problems into actionable experiments and deliverablesÂ
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a fast-moving environmentÂ
Â
Preferred / Nice-to-haveÂ
- Experience with underwater vision (turbidity, low-light, motion blur, color shift), domain adaptation, or robustness methodsÂ
- Experience with active learning, human-in-the-loop labeling, uncertainty estimation, drift detectionÂ
- Familiarity with MLOps tooling (Weights & Biases, MLflow, DVC, data lineage, model registry)Â
- Exposure to distributed training, multi-GPU, or cloud training workflowsÂ
BenefitsÂ
- Paid time off and holidaysÂ
- Employee Assistance ProgramÂ
- Paid parental leaveÂ
- PensionÂ
- Employer-paid medical, dental, visionÂ
- Wellness AllowanceÂ
- Hybrid schedule option available (must be located in HRM and available to be onsite weekly)Â Â
