Founding Process Engineer: our view in 3 lines...
- The Role:This role is for a process engineer working on materials synthesis for semiconductor chip discovery using AI-generated recipes.
- The Person:The person will synthesize materials, build feedback loops from experimental data, develop verifiers to filter recipes, and help stand up the lab.
- Requirements:The ideal candidate has synthesized thin film materials before with CVD and PVD techniques and has tried new synthesis approaches to validate whether they work.
About the role
The Problem
Our models today are proposing new materials and synthesis recipes faster than any lab on earth can validate them. Many of these materials and recipes are dead ends, but a few are genuinely interesting and could lead to a novel breakthrough.
The role
As a Founding Process Engineer at Discovered Materials, you will:
- Synthesize materials across multiple classes using CVD and PVD techniques
- Build feedback loops by using experimental data to develop verifiers that filter out good, unique recipes that are worth trying from millions of bad ones
- Help stand up the lab itself: We’ll start at UC Berkeley’s or Stanford’s nanolabs while our systems come online
You will thrive here if
- You’ve synthesized thin film materials before with several deposition or growth techniques
- You’ve tried new synthesis approaches, and have an ability to set up experiments that will validate or disprove whether a new technique will work
- You enjoy working with fast-paced, ambitious teams and on problems with no written playbook
Our mission
Chips today are at least 10,000x less power efficient than the human brain. We believe new materials can close that gap, and we intend to do so by accelerating material discovery.
At Discovered Materials, we build AI agents that discover new materials for semiconductor chips.
AI chips have major power and heat problems, which is why datacenters consume unsustainable amounts of power and water today. Both the amount of power required and heat generated are influenced by the materials used to make chips. Today's materials are at their limit, and we want to bring in an order of magnitude of improvement by using new ones.
We are backed by a $9M seed round led by Lightspeed, with participation from Y Combinator and angels like Paul Graham, Gokul Rajaram and Thariq Shihipar.
