The Role:This is a senior backend engineering role focused on payment systems for a fintech company serving a large user base.
The Person:The person will design large-scale systems, build platform components such as RESTful APIs, Pub/Sub systems, and database clients, support production code, and work on root-cause problem solving.
Requirements:The role calls for 6+ years of experience, excellent skills in Java and another general-purpose language, SQL and NoSQL databases, concurrency, distributed computing, microservices, and English or Japanese.

And based on their customer-first technologies , we created and expanded the smartphone payment service in Japan. Therefore, we have decided to establish a development base in India, because it is a major IT country with many talented engineers, as evidenced by the fact that cutting-edge mobile payments can continue to be generated.

Job Description

PayPay India is looking for a Senior Backend engineer to work on our payment system to deliver the best payment experience for our customers.

Main Responsibilities

Design large scale systems with high complexity to support our high throughput applications.
Understand how to leverage infrastructure for solving such large scale problems.
Develop tools and contribute to open source wherever possible.
Adopt problem solving as a way of life – always go to root cause! Support the code you write in production.

Tech Stack

Qualifications

6+ years of experience having excellent skills in Java & any other generalized programming language, such as Scala, Python, or Go.
Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed.
Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, along with distributed cache.
Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and object oriented programming.
In-depth understanding of concurrency and distributed computing.
Experience implementing platform components such as RESTful APIs, Pub/Sub Systems, and Database Clients.
Experience with microservices.
Experience designing high traffic systems.
Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or 5+ years equivalent experience in SaaS platform development.
Business of English or Japanese

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in working for system development in finance, payment, or similar industries.
- Language ability in Japanese and English is a plus (We have a professional translator but it is nice to have language skills).
- Experience with AWS services.
- Leverage AI/LLM-based tools in daily workflows (e.g., code development, reviews, testing, debugging, documentation), while ensuring human oversight, judgment, and accountability drive the final product.
