What We Are Looking For:Â
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can level up how our team uses AI to build, scale, and maintain modern software systems, with a strong emphasis on automation frameworks and quality engineering. This person will bring strong hands-on experience with AI-enabled tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, or similar) and apply them across software development, test design, failure analysis, and automation strategy. You should be comfortable operating independently, creating repeatable processes, and driving adoption across the team, helping others understand not just the tools, but how to use them effectively to improve quality, speed, and coverage. This is a high-impact role for someone who combines deep QA fundamentals with a forward-thinking, AI-first mindset.
This position is in Richmond, VA and is onsite Monday through Thursday and work from home Friday.
Responsibilities Â
- Ensures that products conform to business requirements/company policies, software quality standards, and established proceduresÂ
- Confirms that testable systems are specified, designed and implementedÂ
- Ensures testing practices and documentation support SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance requirementsÂ
- Designs, documents, and implements testing procedures and techniques aligned with departmental SQA Methodology, evaluating software and business risk, accuracy, completeness, internal integrity, testability, and overall quality across business systems and SDLC processesÂ
- Creates and maintains SQA deliverables including test plans, test cases, test data, project test progress and release reports, application turnover documents and test schedulesÂ
- Recommends and assists in corrective actions taken at all stages of product life cycleÂ
- Submits and tracks issues throughout the SDLC, including production (maintenance) and release issues, in their respective systemsÂ
- Develops functional automated tests and curates automated regression test suitesÂ
- Supports release management by validating release readiness and coordinating go/no-go testing decisionsÂ
- Leverages agentic engineering and AI-assisted tools to accelerate test design, automation, and defect triage across the SDLCÂ
Basic QualificationsÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or related field, from an accredited, in-person, not for profit university or collegeÂ
- A track record of commitment to prior employers
- Experience with agentic engineering and AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate test automation and quality workflowsÂ
- Demonstrated ability to apply AI copilots or agentic workflows to test case generation, code review, and root-cause analysisÂ
- Strong working knowledge of SQL and relational database designÂ
- Proficient in writing T-SQL queriesÂ
- Experience testing mission-critical relational database applications, and web-based enterprise systemsÂ
- Comfortable writing software to implement functional automated tests using well known design patternsÂ
- A good understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentalsÂ
- Working knowledge of Postman for API testing and debuggingÂ
- An understanding of quality assurance testing methodologies, deliverables, processes, strategies, metrics, techniques and the software development life cycle (SDLC)Â
- Demonstrated ability to create functional/integration API layer testsÂ
- Comfortable creating and delivering automated tests in an Agile environmentÂ
- Skilled in reporting, regressing, and reproducing software problems.Â
- Hands-on with testing/debugging tools including Chrome Debugger, Datadog, and Log RocketÂ
- Strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners)Â
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- 5+ years industry experience as a software quality assurance test engineerÂ
- 5+ years of experience with functional testing either manually or via automation toolsÂ
- Hands on experience in automation and good understanding of automation testing strategies and toolsÂ
- Proficient in designing and implementing automated tests using Playwright or similar automated testing frameworkÂ
- Skilled at integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, Jenkins)Â
- Background in performance/load testing tools such as k6, JMeter, or GatlingÂ
- Familiarity with accessibility testing standards (WCAG, Section 508)Â
- Baseline familiarity with OWASP Top 10 and secure testing practicesÂ
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and Azure DevOps or GitHub (TFS a plus).Â
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and be proactiveÂ
- ISTQB or equivalent QA certification a plusÂ

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on a
variety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
Base Compensation: $130,000 - $170,000 Annually
