<p><strong>London Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home</strong></p>
<p><strong>About the Role</strong></p>
<p>You'll lead the FinCrime Core team, responsible for Ebury's AML (Anti-Money Laundering) platform. This is a critical, regulated domain where your work directly impacts:</p>
<ul>
<li>Sanctions Screening: Real-time screening of customers and transactions against global watchlists</li>
<li>Transaction Monitoring: Detection of suspicious payment patterns</li>
<li>Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring Ebury meets FCA, EU AML directives, and global regulatory requirements</li>
</ul>
<p>The platform processes millions of screening requests and payment events, requiring high reliability, low latency, and strong audit trails.</p>
<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p><strong>Technical Leadership</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Own the AML Screening and Transaction Monitoring domain, setting the 0–6 month technical roadmap</li>
<li>Drive architecture decisions for event-driven systems (Kafka, SNS/SQS)</li>
<li>Ensure integrations with third-party providers are reliable and performant</li>
<li>Champion observability with comprehensive logging, metrics, and alerting for a regulated environment</li>
<li>Balance "keep the lights on" work with modernisation initiatives</li>
<li>Unblock the team through code reviews, architecture guidance, or hands-on contribution when needed</li>
<li>Provide technical leadership and step in for Senior Engineers when required</li>
<li>Ensure all systems have appropriate support, SLAs, on-call rotas, and documentation</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Delivery Management</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Responsible for team delivery, sprint planning, and project health</li>
<li>Assess the criticality of unplanned work, minimising context-switching and unnecessary pressure</li>
<li>Balance team capacity with roadmap demands</li>
<li>Instil urgency to find the right balance between velocity and quality</li>
<li>Ensure all incidents are owned and resolved</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Cross-Functional Collaboration</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Act as the primary liaison between engineering and product, partnering with your counterpart to ensure full alignment</li>
<li>Communicate progress clearly and escalate issues effectively</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>People Management</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Lead a team of engineers at varying levels, creating stability and psychological safety</li>
<li>Manage performance and well-being, initiating corrective actions when needed</li>
<li>Provide coaching, performance reviews, and career development</li>
<li>Foster a culture of ownership, feedback, and continuous improvement</li>
<li>Hire, grow, and retain high-performing engineers</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Process and Performance</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ensure company processes are executed effectively and on time</li>
<li>Accountable for team KPIs: velocity, quality, on-time delivery, morale, and staffing</li>
<li>May manage a limited budget for tools or specific project costs</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<p><strong>Required</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role</li>
<li>Deep understanding of software development methodologies and best practices</li>
<li>Recent hands-on experience (within the last 5 years) as a Tech Lead or Senior+ Engineer</li>
<li>Experience with agile development processes</li>
<li>Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills</li>
<li>Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities</li>
<li>Passion for technology and innovation</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Nice to Have</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in regulated industries (FinTech, banking, payments)</li>
<li>Understanding of AML/KYC processes and compliance requirements</li>
<li>Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka</li>
<li>Familiarity with third-party screening or monitoring providers</li>
<li>Experience managing on-call rotations for critical systems</li>
</ul>
