Role Title: Configuration Engineer

BU/Segment: Analytics /Insurance

Location:   London, United Kingdom (Flexible hybrid working)

Employment Type: Permanent

Summary of the role:

EXL is seeking a Configuration Engineer to join our Analytics and Insurance team in London. This role focuses on building and maintaining configuration-driven solutions that power enterprise-grade insurance SaaS platforms.

You will translate business and functional requirements into structured JSON and YAML configurations, enabling dynamic forms, workflows and rule engines without heavy custom code. Working closely with business analysts, developers and QA teams, you will ensure that configuration changes are robust, governed and aligned to platform standards.

Experience within the insurance domain is strongly preferred, particularly exposure to policy administration, underwriting, claims or insurance workflow systems.

As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:

  • Configure and manage JSON and YAML-based configurations for forms, rules and workflows
  • Define dynamic UI forms, field validations and conditional logic using configuration files
  • Implement and maintain business rules within a configuration-driven platform
  • Translate business requirements into structured configuration artefacts
  • Customise application behaviour through configuration rather than code changes
  • Validate, test and troubleshoot configuration changes across environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver accurate and scalable solutions
  • Maintain version control, documentation and governance of configuration assets
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise standards and best practice

Qualifications and experience we consider to be essential for the role:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Configuration Engineer or similar role
  • Strong understanding of JSON and YAML syntax, structure and best practices
  • Experience configuring enterprise systems including forms, rules and workflows
  • Ability to translate business requirements into structured configuration logic
  • Understanding of rule engines and workflow orchestration
  • Experience working in structured enterprise development environments
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Eligible to work in the United Kingdom

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within the insurance domain, particularly insurance SaaS platforms
  • Understanding of insurance data models, policy lifecycle, claims or underwriting processes
  • Exposure to low-code or configuration-driven platforms
  • Basic knowledge of backend services or .NET for integration awareness
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript
  • Experience working in cloud-based environments

As part of a leading global Data and AI company, you can look forward to:

  • A competitive salary with a generous bonus, private healthcare, critical illness life assurance at 4 x your annual salary, income protection insurance, and a rewarding pension.
  • EXL provides everyday financial well-being solutions, such as cash back cards, in which you can earn cashback while enjoying discounts, promotions, and offers from top retailers. We also offer a Cycle Scheme where you can save money on bikes and cycling accessories.
  • At EXL, we are committed to providing our employees with the tools and resources they need to succeed and excel in their careers. We offer a wide range of professional and personal development opportunities. We also support a range of learning initiatives that allow our employees to build on their existing skills and knowledge. From online courses to seminars and workshops, our employees have the opportunity to enhance their skills and stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies.
  • As an Equal Opportunity Employer, EXL is committed to diversity. Our company does not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, age, or disability status.
  • EXL employees are eligible to purchase stock as part of our Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
  • At EXL, we offer a flexible hybrid working model that allows employees to live a balanced, healthy lifestyle while strengthening our culture of collaboration.

To be considered for this role, you must already be eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
