About the team:

The Smart Grid Technology Lab’s research focuses on Power electronics, Energy Management Systems and other Smart Grid Technologies, applying the latest technology to the digital power industry. The lab has become a research organization with many significant industry achievements.

About the job:

  • Design, simulate, implement, and maintain microgrid control and protection systems.

  • Produce and review protection and control schemes, functional design specifications, support technical requirement formulations and stakeholder discussions.

  • Design, develop and test microgrid protection and control logics, communication, and APIs for EMS / SCADA integration.

  • Support hardware and software integration of protection and control systems, with the interoperability on protocol stacks such as IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850 MMS, Goose, DNP3, Modbus.

About the ideal candidate:

  • Hold a bachelor's or a Master's degree in the field of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or with a related background in power system protection and automation.

  • 3+ years of working experience in microgrid control and protection design and deployment. Familiar with common automation controllers/PLCs/RTUs and IEC61131.

  • 3+years of microgrid Integration experience with the protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850 MMS, Goose, DNP3, Modbus.

  • Proficiency with application-level development (RTOS, C/C++, Linux, FPGA/SoC platforms, etc.)

  • Familiar with offline EMT simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations.

  • Familiarity with microgrid solution commissioning is an asset.

Huawei aims to support a French-speaking work environment for its employees in Quebec. We have taken steps to avoid requiring a language other than French for this position. However, proficiency in English is essential for this role for the following reasons:

The person will be required to communicate regularly with colleagues located outside Quebec, where English is the primary language used for communication between offices. In addition, the nature of the tasks related to this position, which falls within a highly specialized field of artificial intelligence, also requires knowledge of English.
