Job purpose:
Janes is seeking an analyst to research modern land-based air defence systems and update equipment profiles explaining how those systems work, detailing major components and integrated systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with other data analysts and take ownership of our systems-level coverage, building relationships with manufacturers and operators enabling them to write clear, comprehensive and current records for our global readership.
How you will contribute at Janes:
- Researching in-service and developmental land-based air defence systems from around the world;
- Writing new description and development profiles of SAM systems and anti-aircraft artillery;
- Staying abreast of news developments in the air defence field and updating profiles of in-service systems;
- Checking and validating our content to ensure compliance with Janes sourcing standards;
- Sourcing and building Janes image library of air defence systems;
- Building your network of contacts and proactively connecting with defence industry and military personnel;
- Working with the wider subject-focused teams in the Janes Equipment Intelligence Team, as well as Inventories and ORBATs specialist analysts.
The ideal skills and experience for this role are:
- A strong team player with a demonstrable interest in military equipment, including land-based air defence systems;
- Proven ability to conduct primary research, analysis, and critical thinking, with excellent written and spoken English;
- We will provide training in Janes Tradecraft and Open Source Intelligence skills, but the successful candidate will be able to show a base knowledge and understanding of land-based air defence technologies;
- Aptitude to build networks and conduct interviews via telephone, video, email and other communication channels;
- Curiosity to find answers and an ability to interpret technical documents and secondary sources, analyse large volumes of data, and review imagery.
