Position Description:

PAR Technology is seeking a hands-on, entry-level Electrical Engineer to support the development, evaluation, and validation of ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) equipment used in restaurant environments, including but not limited to Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, ordering kiosks, kitchen display systems (KDS), and drive through audio systems.

This role is lab-forward and execution-oriented: you’ll develop and run test plans, troubleshoot issues to root cause (including schematic review), and support manufacturing readiness through ECN validation, manufacturing test support, BOM reviews, and component replacement qualification. You’ll also contribute to competitive analysis and technology research to inform product specifications and roadmap decisions.

Position Location:

New Hartford, NY

Reports To:

Staff Engineer, ODM & Sustaining

What We’re Looking For:

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related field).

· Strong hands-on aptitude with lab equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, bench power, basic debugging tools).

· Ability to read and interpret schematics, datasheets, and board-level documentation to support debug and change evaluation.

· Working knowledge of Windows / Linux (command line, logs, system bring-up basics, device/USB/peripheral troubleshooting).

· Solid documentation habits—able to write clear test plans, test reports, and problem statements.

· Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating with ODM partners and cross-functional teams.

Additional skills:

· Basic circuit design capability, including schematic capture and PCB development fundamentals.

· Familiarity with PC-based or embedded platforms (x86/ARM), interfaces (USB, PCIe basics, UART/I2C/SPI), and power subsystems.

· Exposure to manufacturing concepts: DFM/DFT, production test coverage, yields, and ECO/ECN workflows.

· BOM risk assessment (lifecycle, alternates, substitutions) and component qualification mindset.

· Basic scripting (Python) for data logging, test automation, or report generation is a plus.

Unleash your potential: What you will be doing and owning:

· Developing and executing test plans for PAR-branded hardware products (POS, kiosks, KDS, and display-based systems).

· Performing testing and evaluation of ODM equipment, including revision-to-revision comparison, qualification, and acceptance testing.

· Troubleshooting product problems using structured debug methods; reviewing schematics/board docs to identify probable root cause and corrective actions.

· Working directly with ODM partners to drive issue resolution, validate fixes, and prevent recurrence.

· Supporting Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and product updates by researching, documenting, and validating change requests.

· Supporting manufacturing test development and factory readiness (test coverage reviews, fixture/tester feedback, first-article support, yield-impacting issue triage).

· Performing BOM reviews, identifying risk components, and qualifying alternates/component replacements.

· Research evolving technologies for potential use in PAR products/markets.

· Performing competitive analysis and contributing data that informs product benchmarks and requirements.

· Helping with defining product specifications based on technology research and competitive analysis.
