Job Description

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

What we do: The Credit Risk Strategy protects Stripe by managing the end-to-end credit risk of our largest and most complex users.

How we do it: We leverage deep underwriting expertise and data-driven stress heuristics to make informed decisions at every stage of the user lifecycle—from onboarding to loss recovery. Our Goal: Enabling Stripe’s growth by making confident, calibrated decisions on our highest-exposure users.

What you’ll do: As the Manager of the APAC Credit Risk Strategy Team, you will lead a group of high-performing and tenured underwriters/Credit Strategists responsible for Stripe’s most significant financial exposures. You aren't just managing a queue; you are building the framework that allows Stripe to say "yes" to complex, multi-billion dollar businesses while keeping our balance sheet secure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a Specialized Team: Coach and mentor a world-class team of commercial underwriters and Credit Strategists. You’ll be responsible for their professional growth and for fostering a culture of rigorous, data-driven credit judgment.
  • Own the E2E Credit Risk Lifecycle: Oversee the team’s execution across all critical decision points—from high-stakes New User Onboarding and Contract Negotiations to Reactive Stress Reviews and Loss Recovery.
  • Strategic Stakeholder Partnership: Act as a key advisor to Sales, Risk Strategy, Risk Policy and Bank Partners. You will navigate complex Bank Concurrences and Waivers, ensuring our risk appetite aligns with both internal goals and external partner requirements.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Work closely with our Credit Ops and SDC teams to implement efficient and effective review processes while providing constructive feedback to improve procedures. You will identify gaps in our current processes and build the organizational infrastructure needed to support Stripe’s evolving product suite.
  • High-Stakes Decisioning: Serve as an escalation point for ad-hoc credit reviews and referrals, making informed judgments on Stripe’s largest and riskiest users during volatile market conditions or incidents.
  • Systems Thinking: Deeply understand our performance metrics including loss trends and leading indicators. Analyze account activity and monitor portfolio trends to identify opportunities for Stripe to reduce potential credit losses. Understand our current credit controls and strategies to identify opportunities for improvement. Work closely with our core risk team to mitigate potential risks with specific users.
