Job Description

About the Science Team

The Science team at ZOE is a diverse, multidisciplinary group of "ZOEntists" working at the intersection of nutrition, the microbiome, and lifestyle health. We combine rigorous academic research with fast-paced tech innovation to answer the world’s most complex scientific questions.

We operate at pace, running the world’s largest nutrition studies (the PREDICT Program) and translating those findings into the ZOE product. We are a team of problem solvers who balance deep technical details with the big-picture mission: improving the health of millions through unique biological insights.

About the role & impact

We’re looking for an experienced, data-fluent, and impact-oriented Nutrition Science Lead to join our research group. Reporting to the Senior Nutrition Science Manager, you will be a cornerstone of the team, bridging the gap between groundbreaking discovery and real-world product application.

Initially, your focus will be on bringing science into the product and analyzing health outcomes measured through our app. Over time, you will lead research published in high-impact journals like Nature and The Lancet, working alongside world-class academic collaborators to redefine the future of personalised nutrition.

What you will do

  • Develop research proposals to investigate the relationship between diet, lifestyle, and health using ZOE’s massive research platforms.

  • Design and execute analysis plans for a vast breadth of data collected through ZOE platforms and remote trials.

  • Work closely with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to turn complex findings into compelling features and content (like our podcasts).

  • Deeply consider the user journey when interpreting data, finding new ways to gather information that makes dietary advice more personalised.

  • Contribute to high-impact scientific publications and engage in public-facing activities to share our mission with the world.

  • Manage team initiatives and cross-functional projects, ensuring we meet ambitious deadlines without compromising scientific integrity.

Who you are

  • Hold a PhD in nutrition, epidemiology, public health, or a related quantitative field.

  • Possess at least 2 years of postdoctoral or professional experience in health-tech, life sciences, or wellness industries.

  • Have strong statistical analysis skills (expertise in R or Python) and experience working with large observational cohorts and randomised controlled trials.

  • Have a demonstrable record of publications in peer-reviewed journals or scientific conferences.

  • Are comfortable context-switching and managing projects with tight delivery timelines in a rapidly evolving startup.

  • Can translate complex scientific concepts into concise reports for partners across different disciplines.

Bonus points for…

  • Experience troubleshooting complex data issues and proactively escalating risks.

  • A passion for working in a "no silos" environment alongside engineers, designers, and marketers.

Ready to thrive? We want to hear from you

The experience, skills, and attributes we’ve outlined are what we believe will help someone truly thrive in this role.

However, we understand that talent comes in many forms. If you are genuinely excited about ZOE's mission and this opportunity, please don't hesitate to apply—even if you don't meet every single requirement listed.

We fundamentally value potential and commitment above all else. We are dedicated to fostering growth and providing opportunities for you to learn and develop alongside us.
