- The Role: Senior mechanical engineer responsible for designing and delivering mechanical engineering studies and designs across FEED to commissioning for projects in the nuclear lifecycle.
- The Person: Integrate multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver and manage technical studies and mechanical designs producing notes, flow diagrams, P&IDs, drawings and commissioning support for nuclear projects.
- Requirements: A degree in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years' mechanical engineering experience, knowledge of FEED, detailed design, technical specification and experience delivering projects for regulated nuclear sites are required.
Job Description
On behalf of our Client, we are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
Location: Warrington or Abingdon (hybrid)
Within the Engineering team, the Mechanical Engineer will integrate operational engineering multi-disciplines teams delivering projects at various phases, from FEED to commissioning, or in assistance to Plant Operation in the UK.
- Delivering and managing technical studies.
- Design of mechanical processes, from strategic and conceptual phases to detailed design and construction & commissioning phase support. Typical deliverables will be issued: technical note, substantiation notes, mechanical flow diagrams and flow-sheets, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical layout drawings, hazards and malfunctions management, technical specification documentation review from supply chain.
- Technical studies related to mechanical handling for both handling operations and heavy mechanical transfer systems, powder mechanical processes (transport, milling, and compaction) in high active environment and gloveboxes, compaction and mechanical dismantling technologies.
Our Client operates across the entire "nuclear lifecycle"—essentially everything from the production of fuel to the cleaning up of old sites:
- Decommissioning & Waste Management: They are a major partner for Sellafield Ltd, helping manage the transition of the site from reprocessing fuel to cleaning up and dismantling old facilities.
- Specialist Engineering: They provide technical services in nuclear safety, shielding, dose assessment, and "human factors" (how people interact with nuclear systems).
- Fuel Cycle Services: They supply enriched uranium to UK power stations like Hinkley Point C and Sizewell B and handle the logistics of transporting nuclear materials.
- Plutonium Management: They support the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) in technical studies regarding the UK’s plutonium stockpile.
Requirements
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant degree.
- 5+ years experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
- Knowledge of engineering design (development, FEED, detailed design, technical specification, documentation review from supply chain) and engineering team management in the nuclear industry or other regulated sectors.
- Knowledge of mechanical studies delivery (Mechanical handling, powder technologies) considering manufacture, testing, construction commissioning, operation, maintenance recovery and decommissioning aspects.
- Experience of delivering projects for a regulated nuclear site.
Additional
The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK, and be willing to undergo a security vetting process. Offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted.
Travel to other offices and client sites may be necessary. You should be willing to work flexibly to accommodate project and client requirements.
