Senior Firewall Engineer: our view in 3 lines...

  • The Role:This role is for a senior firewall engineer with active TS/SCI clearance to support secure network architectures and network security for mission-critical government and enterprise environments.
  • The Person:The person will design and build secure network architectures, manage WAN, LAN, CAN, and remote security environments, handle incidents, own the security stack, develop SOPs, and research emerging network security technologies.
  • Requirements:The role requires active TS/SCI clearance, a current DoD 8140.01 / 8570.01-M IAT Level II compliant certification, CSSP Infrastructure Support certification or the drive to earn it within 120 days, and 5+ years in Network Security.

About the role

**ACTIVE TS/SCI SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED**

D2 Consulting is looking for a skilled Senior Firewall Engineer to join a high-impact team protecting mission-critical infrastructure. You'll work side-by-side with both corporate and government leadership — meaning your work gets noticed, and your voice matters.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

This isn't a "maintain the status quo" role. You'll be solving real security challenges at enterprise scale:

  • Design & build state-of-the-art secure network architectures — from concept to implementation
  • Protect the network by managing WAN, LAN, CAN, and remote security environments, handling incidents with speed and precision
  • Own the security stack — firewalls, F5 load balancers, web/mail gateways, IDS platforms, and management tools
  • Lead incident response — investigate, document, and drive corrective action when it matters most
  • Shape security operations by developing SOPs that the broader team will rely on
  • Stay ahead of threats by researching and evaluating emerging network security technologies
  • Be the expert in the room — serve as a trusted liaison to contract leadership, customers, and government DAA stakeholders on security posture, policies, and procedures

What You Bring to the Team

Required Clearance & Certifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance (must be current)
  • Ability to pass a U.S. Government Polygraph (post-hire)
  • DoD 8140.01 / 8570.01-M IAT Level II compliant certification (current)
  • CSSP Infrastructure Support certification — or the drive to earn it within 120 days of starting

Experience:

  • 5+ years in Network Security within large-scale enterprise or global environments
  • BA/BS degree preferred — but strong hands-on experience can speak just as loudly.  You can substitute a degree with 4 years of additional experience
  • Firewalls: Palo Alto, Juniper, Cisco
  • Routers/Switches: Juniper, Cisco
  • IDS/Threat Tools: FireEye, F5 Load Balancer, Cisco FTD
  • OS/Platforms: Unix, RHEL, Windows Enterprise AD, VMware

Why This Role?

You'll be part of a team that works on problems that actually matter — supporting government missions at the highest levels. If you're a network security professional who wants scope, challenge, and the chance to influence enterprise-wide security decisions, this is the place.
