Senior Embedded Software Test Engineer (m/f/d), Safety & Security Platform: our view in 3 lines...
- The Role:This role is for a senior embedded software test engineer focused on safety- and security-critical defence products.
- The Person:The person will shape test strategy, build and maintain SIL and HIL systems, create automated test tooling and suites, and produce traceable verification evidence for embedded products.
- Requirements:The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in embedded software verification, SIL/HIL infrastructure, Python scripting, C and/or Modern C++, embedded debugging, and hardware/communication protocols.
About the role
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Test to shape the testing strategy and infrastructure for safety- and security-critical products in the defence sector.
You will develop and maintain software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems, build automated test tooling, and create objective evidence that embedded products meet their requirements. Working closely with software, hardware and systems engineers, you will help identify defects early, understand system behaviour and improve product quality from development through integration and acceptance.
This is a hands-on role with significant ownership. You will act as a technical point of contact for embedded testing and help establish efficient, repeatable test practices across multidisciplinary product-development teams.
What You’ll Build
- End-to-end verification strategies, test specifications/requirements and test plans, and acceptance criteria tailored for safety- and security-critical defence products.
- Automated SIL and HIL test systems, simulation environments, and test tooling integrated directly into CI pipelines and lab infrastructure.
- Automated component, integration, and system test suites for deeply embedded resource-constrained real-time systems.
- Fault-injection, fuzzing, and stress-testing harnesses designed to uncover system limits, timing edge cases, and unexpected behavior.
- Data-collection, metrics-tracking (e.g., code coverage), and automated reporting toolchains that yield objective, fully traceable verification evidence.
- Collaborative workflows alongside software, hardware, and systems engineers to model, exercise, and analyze products on target hardware and in simulation.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong hands-on experience in embedded software verification and building SIL/HIL infrastructure within regulated, high-assurance environments (e.g., defence, aerospace, automotive, or marine; preferably Linux-based).
- Strong Python scripting capabilities for test automation, complemented by experience with writing software in C and/or Modern C++, embedded debugging, and hardware/communication protocols (e.g., CAN, network stacks).
- Practical experience with real-time performance and timing analysis, safety/security standards, static analysis, and virtualized targets.
- A proactive, evidence-driven engineering approach with clear technical communication skills, capable of acting as an independent point of contact across multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional fluency in English (must-have); German language proficiency is a strong plus.
Please note: You do not need to meet every single requirement to apply. We welcome motivated candidates who are eager to grow into the role and develop their expertise further.
