- The Role:This role is for a senior engineer designing AR glasses and other consumer electronics hardware at Google.
- The Person:The person will design complex subsystems and parts from concept to production, work with JDM teams and suppliers, drive assembly and prototyping discussions, and help resolve design, manufacturing, and reliability issues.
- Requirements:The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field, 5 years of product design experience in consumer electronics, and experience using NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
About the role
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in product design for consumer electronics.
- 5 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
Preferred qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in consumer product design.
- Experience shipping multiple consumer products in a lead or senior engineer role, and deep technical knowledge in multiple manufacturing methods used in consumer products.
- Experience with higher cosmetic standard products and working with industry design.
- Experience collaborating with suppliers around the world on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
- System integration experience, including electro-mechanical components (audio, display, camera, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.
- Work closely with external partners to support technology deployment and product development, with expertise in NX and team center.

Responsibilities:
- Design complex subsystems or multiple individual parts from concept to production, including fixtures to enable automation of high precision assembly processes.
- Collaborate with JDM teams supporting part design, and collaborate with suppliers of subsystems or individual parts throughout the design and manufacturing process.
- Drive end-to-end discussions on system assembly process, prototyping, equipment and tooling needs for high precision assembly.
- Identify the root cause of design, manufacturing, or reliability issues and develop corrective actions.
- Design for technical depth and innovative ideas. Solve issues associated with the product development path using creativity and smart designs.
