About the role
Copart, Inc. a technology leader and the premier online vehicle auction platform globally, with over 200 facilities located across the world, Copart links vehicle sellers to more than 750,000 buyers in over 190 countries. Â We believe in providing an unmatched experience, every day and everywhere, driven by our people, processes, and technology.Â
About CopartÂ
Copart is a global leader in online vehicle auctions, connecting buyers and sellers worldwide. We're transforming the automotive remarketing industry through innovative technology solutions that process millions of vehicles annually. Our Dallas technology team is at the forefront of modernizing our core business systems, working on challenging problems at scale.Â
About the RoleÂ
We're seeking a curious, driven Software Engineering Intern to join our Title Transfer Services team, which owns the critical ownership and title transfer process for vehicles received at our yards nationwide. This is a greenfield opportunity to help build modern, scalable services from the ground up using cutting-edge technologies and design principles.Â
You'll contribute to a strategic re-architecture initiative, moving from legacy systems to a modern modular monolith architecture. You'll help build and maintain our Java and React full-stack applications, and help explore how agentic AI can automate and optimize operational processes.Â
We're looking for someone who is AI-ready: you already build with AI coding agents as a natural part of your workflow, you've built agentic AI projects of your own, and you pair that with solid software engineering fundamentals.Â
What You'll DoÂ
Architecture & DesignÂ
- Help design and implement modular, domain-aligned, AI-powered applications that model complex vehicle title transfer and ownership processesÂ
- Learn how architectural decisions balance technical excellence with business needsÂ
- Help design RESTful APIs and integration patterns for inter-module communicationÂ
- Share ideas in technical discussions around tooling, frameworks, and system designÂ
Development & ImplementationÂ
- Build and maintain features across our Java, Spring Boot, and React full-stack applicationsÂ
- Use AI coding agents to accelerate development, while reviewing, testing, and taking ownership of the code they produceÂ
- Build responsive user interfaces and robust backend servicesÂ
- Write tests that ensure code quality and system reliabilityÂ
- Participate in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to maintain high standardsÂ
- Write clean, well-documented code following solid engineering principles and design patternsÂ
AI, Agents & AutomationÂ
- Help build and prototype AI agents that automate and optimize title transfer processes and operational workflowsÂ
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to reduce manual effort and improve efficiencyÂ
- Work with the team's emerging agent stack (Python, Google's Agent Development Kit, and GCP) as it takes shapeÂ
- Stay curious about emerging technologies and evaluate their potential application to business problemsÂ
Collaboration & LearningÂ
- Collaborate with product managers, domain experts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutionsÂ
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including UX/UI designers, QA engineers, and DevOps to deliver end-to-end solutionsÂ
- Learn from experienced engineers through pairing, code reviews, and technical planning sessionsÂ
- Share what you learn about AI coding agents and agentic tooling with the wider teamÂ
Continuous ImprovementÂ
- Stay current with emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry trends, especially in agentic AIÂ
- Identify opportunities for technical debt reduction and system optimizationÂ
- Contribute ideas to the evolution of team standards, processes, and toolingÂ
- Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectivesÂ
What You'll BringÂ
Required QualificationsÂ
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (completed or in progress); Master's preferredÂ
- Proven hands-on experience building agentic AI applications through personal, academic, or professional projects (for example, agents that plan, call tools or APIs, or run multi-step workflows); please share links or descriptionsÂ
- Regular use of AI coding agents in your development workflow, with the judgment to review, test, and own the code they produceÂ
- Strong programming fundamentals in at least one backend language such as Java, Python, Go, C#, or similarÂ
- Exposure to frontend development with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, or similar)Â
- Solid understanding of software design principles (SOLID, DRY, KISS) and common design patternsÂ
- Understanding of RESTful API designÂ
- Familiarity with relational databases and data modelingÂ
- Experience with version control (Git) and exposure to CI/CD practicesÂ
- Passion for learning and staying current with technology trends and best practicesÂ
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinkingÂ
- Excellent communication and collaboration skillsÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, and the Spring ecosystemÂ
- Experience building React applicationsÂ
- Experience building agents in PythonÂ
- Exposure to agent frameworks such as Google's Agent Development Kit (ADK) or similarÂ
- Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or another major cloud platformÂ
- Familiarity with agent concepts such as tool calling, retrieval, multi-agent orchestration, and evaluating agent behaviorÂ
- Interest in modular monolith architectures and when to use monoliths vs. microservicesÂ
- Exposure to Domain-Driven Design conceptsÂ
- Experience with Docker and containerizationÂ
- Background in automotive, logistics, or document processing domainsÂ
- Experience with test-driven development (TDD)Â
- Side projects, open-source contributions, hackathons, or experimentation with different tech stacksÂ
- Active participation in technology communities, conferences, or online learningÂ
- Experience across multiple programming paradigms (OOP, functional, etc.)Â
