The Position

The Data Management & Governance Specialist implements data governance policies and data quality initiatives. In this role, you will be accountable for ensuring data reliability and independently resolving compliance challenges. This position involves direct communication with data owners and advising data consumers on proper data usage. You will enhance data governance frameworks and translate business and regulatory requirements into actionable policies, ensuring trusted data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Scope / (Content Leadership): Implements specific data governance policies or standards. Contributes to developing data models, data management best practices for data quality or lineage with minimum supervision.

  • Accountability/Problem Solving: Takes full accountability for data quality initiatives within assigned data domains. Resolves data governance issues or policy compliance challenges independently or with minimum guidance.

  • Stakeholder Management: Communicates directly with data owners and stewards regarding data policies. Advises data consumers on data availability, quality, and usage guidelines.

  • Impact/Strategy: Ensures data assets are reliable and compliant, enabling trusted data decisions. Identifies opportunities to enhance data governance frameworks or processes.

  • Complexity / (Product Size): Manages moderately complex data governance initiatives involving multiple data sets. Works with data management components within specific data domains or platforms.

  • Business / Technical ability: Demonstrates strong knowledge of data governance principles and data lifecycle management. Translates regulatory requirements or business needs into actionable data management policies.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing data governance policies and data quality initiatives.

  • Regulated environment experience will be an asset

  • Proven track record of taking full accountability for data quality within assigned domains and resolving policy compliance challenges with minimal guidance.

  • Experience managing moderately complex data governance initiatives involving multiple data sets and platforms.

Technical / Business Skills

  • Strong knowledge of data models, data governance principles and data lifecycle management.

  • Proven ability to translate regulatory requirements or business needs into actionable data management policies.

  • Familiarity working with data management components within specific data domains or platforms.

Additional Qualifications

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate directly with data owners and stewards regarding data policies.

  • Capability to effectively advise data consumers on data availability, quality, and usage guidelines.

  • Proactive mindset to identify opportunities to enhance data governance frameworks or processes.
