THE ROLE:

The AMD Compute and Enterprise AI Server team develops next-generation platforms powering EPYC and Instinct products.

We are seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to own end-to-end server platform validation, from architecture alignment through post-silicon bring-up, debug, and customer enablement. You will lead cross-functional execution, drive feature readiness, and make technical tradeoffs across functionality, performance, quality, and schedule.

THE PERSON:

You are a systems-level technical leader with expertise in at least one area and the ability to work across architecture, silicon, firmware, software, validation, and performance. You are comfortable operating in ambiguity, making decisions with incomplete data, and influencing global teams without direct authority. You communicate risks and tradeoffs clearly to both engineering teams and senior leaders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own platform validation strategy, execution, feature readiness, and delivery outcomes.
  • Translate product requirements and customer use cases into scalable validation plans.
  • Lead alignment across architecture, hardware, firmware, BIOS, software, validation, performance, and customer engineering.
  • Drive post-silicon bring-up, system debug, test execution, and validation milestones.
  • Define platform configurations, firmware requirements, debug tools, and validation environments.
  • Prioritize defects, lead root-cause analysis, and drive mitigation and resolution plans.
  • Manage technical risks, engineering resources, platform assets, and schedule tradeoffs.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and readiness decisions to senior leadership.
  • Mentor engineers and improve validation coverage, efficiency, and product quality.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Leadership of complex system development or post-silicon validation programs.
  • Broad experience across server architecture, silicon, firmware, validation, or performance, with depth in at least one area.
  • Strong understanding of CPU, GPU, memory, I/O, firmware, BIOS, and system-level interactions.
  • Experience with system bring-up, debug, defect tracking, root-cause analysis, and test automation.
  • Experience with Linux, Windows, and hypervisors such as VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and make sound technical decisions under ambiguity.
  • Strong executive communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience improving validation coverage, execution efficiency, or product quality.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field desired.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

LOCATION:

Austin, Texas – MET Center
