We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Full Stack Engineer to join our Conventional Trust Platform team. This role is located in Manchester.

Overview

BNY is seeking a Director, Full Stack Development for the Conventional Trust Platform in Manchester, UK. This leader will drive the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of full stack technology solutions that modernize platform capabilities, strengthen operational resilience, and improve client and business outcomes. The role requires an AI-first mindset, combining strong engineering leadership with practical application of AI-enabled development, automation, and data-driven decision-making across the software delivery lifecycle.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of full stack application development across the Conventional Trust Platform, ensuring scalable, resilient, and secure technology solutions.

  • Manage and mentor engineering teams across frontend, backend, APIs, integration layers, and platform services.

  • Drive platform modernization initiatives that improve performance, maintainability, control effectiveness, and time to market.

  • Embed an AI-first engineering approach by identifying opportunities to use AI for developer productivity, process optimization, code quality, testing acceleration, operational insights, and intelligent automation.

  • Partner closely with product, operations, architecture, infrastructure, risk, and business stakeholders to align engineering delivery with platform priorities.

  • Ensure strong SDLC discipline including requirements clarity, design quality, peer review, automated testing, release governance, production validation, and support readiness.

  • Champion engineering best practices in full stack architecture, reusable design patterns, API strategy, observability, and secure coding.

  • Strengthen platform stability and operational resilience by reducing manual touchpoints, improving exception handling, and enhancing recovery and support processes.

  • Support release planning, prioritization, and execution for strategic enhancements and remediation activities.

  • Translate technical initiatives into business value through improved controls, reduced operational risk, enhanced audit readiness, and better user experience.

  • Contribute to talent development, succession planning, and high-performance team culture within the engineering organization.
     

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

  • Significant experience leading full stack software engineering teams in enterprise environments.

  • Strong hands-on or leadership experience across frontend, backend, APIs, middleware, databases, and cloud/infrastructure-integrated application architecture.

  • Proven ability to lead large-scale platform enhancements, modernization, or transformation programs.

  • Experience managing engineering delivery in regulated, control-focused, or operationally critical environments.

  • Strong understanding of software engineering practices including system design, CI/CD, automated testing, code review, and production support.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across business, operations, and technology teams in a matrixed organization.

  • Experience using or promoting AI-enabled software engineering practices such as intelligent coding assistance, AI-supported testing, workflow automation, knowledge retrieval, or operational analytics.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and articulate engineering outcomes in business terms.

  • Experience in people leadership, coaching, and performance management.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in financial services, asset servicing, trust, custody, or adjacent platform-based enterprise domains.

    • Exposure to domain modernization involving workflow controls, exception reduction, auditability, and service resilience.

    • Familiarity with event-driven architecture, microservices, API-first design, and modern UI engineering practices.

    • Experience with data-driven engineering management, platform metrics, and operational insight tooling.

    • Understanding of AI governance, responsible AI usage, and practical enterprise adoption patterns.
