Job Description
We’re looking for a senior traffic engineer with strong analytical capability to join our team in a part-time role. This role would suit someone who enjoys staying close to the technical work leading transport assessments, modelling intersections and networks, reviewing parking and access arrangements, and using GIS/spatial analytics to support transport planning opportunities and options.
You’ll work across a mix of development and infrastructure projects, providing practical advice that helps shape good transport outcomes.
The opportunity

- Equivalent of 2–3 days per week, with genuine flexibility around hours. For example, an option for school-hours arrangements such as 10am–2pm

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Urban Planning, Geography or a related discipline, ideally with transport-related modules; or equivalent formal qualifications, professional development or certifications relevant to traffic engineering, transport planning, modelling or transport analytics.
- Demonstrated private consultancy experience leading and delivering Transport Impact Assessments for a broad range of land uses, including major developments, precinct planning and masterplanning projects.
- Proven capability in SIDRA intersection and network modelling, including interpretation and application of results.
- Experience undertaking parking and access assessments, including the application of relevant standards such as AS/NZS 2890.
- Strong understanding and application of NSW transport planning, standards and approvals processes.
- Experience using GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS) to support transport planning analysis, opportunity identification and option development.
- Ability to independently manage and deliver technical workstreams and projects end-to-end.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as TPA, Engineers Australia, Transport Planning Society, PIA or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications and Competencies
- Formal training or recognised competency in SIDRA modelling
- Accreditation or experience in Road Safety Audits
- Chartered Engineer (CPEng or equivalent) or working towards chartership
- Experience with operational or microsimulation modelling, such as VISSIM or AIMSUN
- Familiarity with AutoCAD for reviewing, marking up or preparing simple transport engineering drawings
- Experience working within or on behalf of a council / consent authority reviewing development applications or transport assessments
- Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring to junior staff.
