- The Person:The person will develop and improve ground-control and operator-facing applications, build desktop GUIs, implement telemetry and real-time visualisation, integrate with drones and robotic platforms, and contribute to testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and debugging.
- Requirements:The ideal candidate has strong recent professional experience developing production software in Rust, building desktop applications and GUIs, and working with real-time data, telemetry, networking, streaming, Linux, and asynchronous programming.
About the role
Gramian Consultancy is a boutique consultancy specializing in IT professional services and engineering talent solutions. With a strong background in software engineering and leadership, we help companies build high-performing teams by matching them with professionals who truly fit their needs.
About the Role
Our client is a Swiss technology company developing advanced autonomous and drone systems for demanding industrial environments. Their software ecosystem includes onboard systems, ground-control applications, real-time telemetry, video streaming, visualization, and operator interfaces.
We are looking for a hands-on Rust Software Engineer with strong experience building desktop/UI applications, real-time software, and interactive visualization systems.
The ideal candidate has substantial professional experience with Rust and has worked on software involving ground-control stations, drones, mapping, 3D visualization, telemetry, simulation, or other complex technical user interfaces.
Deep robotics experience is helpful but not essential. Strong software engineering, UI, visualization, and real-time application experience are more important.
CONTRACT: Long term contract or EOR model
LOCATIONS: REMOTE
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and improve ground-control and operator-facing applications for autonomous and drone systems.
- Build high-performance software primarily using Rust.
- Develop responsive desktop GUIs and technical user interfaces for monitoring and controlling complex systems.
- Implement telemetry, real-time data visualization, system status monitoring, and operator workflows.
- Work with 2D/3D visualization, maps, sensor data, or other interactive graphical components.
- Integrate software with drones, robotic platforms, embedded systems, and external services.
- Develop real-time communication and data-streaming functionality.
- Contribute to video-processing and streaming workflows.
- Optimize application performance, memory usage, multithreading, latency, and responsiveness.
- Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions.
- Maintain high engineering standards through testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and structured debugging.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong, recent professional experience developing production software in Rust.
- Experience building desktop applications, GUIs, visualization tools, or operator-facing software.
- Experience with UI frameworks such as egui, Qt, GTK, Tauri, or comparable technologies.
- Experience with real-time data, telemetry, networking, streaming, or event-driven systems.
- Strong understanding of multithreading, memory management, performance optimization, and asynchronous programming.
- Experience working in Linux environments.
- Strong software architecture and debugging skills.
Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Drone ground-control software or Ground Control Stations (GCS)
- UAV or autonomous-system operator interfaces
- 3D visualization, mapping, GIS, or simulation software
- Robotics visualization or monitoring tools
- Telemetry dashboards and real-time control applications
- Video streaming or processing using GStreamer
- ROS2 or robotics middleware
- Embedded or edge systems
- C++ for performance-critical applications
- MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, or similar drone technologies
