Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to take a leading role in the development of aircraft landing gear systems. This is a high‑impact position suited to a senior systems engineer who enjoys technical ownership, cross‑functional collaboration, and mentoring others.

The Role

As Principal Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the end‑to‑end development of landing gear systems — including structures, extension/retraction systems, hydraulics and electrical harnesses — meets customer expectations and regulatory requirements. You will lead key systems engineering activities from requirements capture through validation and verification, while working closely with architecture, design, verification teams and external suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead systems development plans aligned with ARP4754
  • Capture, analyse and manage customer, regulatory and internal requirements at system, sub‑system and equipment level
  • Lead requirements validation and product verification, including planning, execution and evidence generation
  • Maintain and oversee requirements management tools (e.g. IBM DOORS Classic / DOORS NG)
  • Produce high‑quality systems documentation, including requirements sets, system descriptions, V&V matrices and design substantiation dossiers
  • Write technical equipment specifications (hydraulic actuators, hoses, electrical harnesses)
  • Act as technical liaison with equipment suppliers
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior and junior systems engineers

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of aircraft landing gear systems (ATA 32)
  • Solid grounding in systems engineering principles
  • Experience with mechanical and hydraulic systems (actuators, hoses)
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering and harnessing
  • Understanding of airworthiness and certification requirements
  • Experience with ARP4754 (ARP4761 knowledge desirable)
  • Proven background in requirements management, validation and verification
  • Familiarity with DOORS (Classic and/or NG)
  • MBSE experience advantageous
  • Ability to review, approve and sign off engineering documentation
  • Clear, concise technical writing and strong communication skills
