Senior Engineer, HMS Simulation Framework (R6058): our view in 3 lines...
- The Role:This role is for a senior software engineer building simulation frameworks and plugins for modelling and autonomy software in a defence technology company.
- The Person:The person will build and maintain simulation adapters, plugins and interfaces, migrate HMSSimBlocks capabilities to HMSF, and support integration teams by debugging framework and interface issues.
- Requirements:The ideal candidate has strong software development background in C++ and Python within a Linux environment, with version control Git, automated testing, disciplined debugging, and experience with AFSIM, NGTS, DDS middleware, and CIGI.
About the role
Job Description:
As a Simulation Framework Engineer on the Simulation Framework Team, you will write the C++ and Python code, design adapters, and build custom plugins for our modeling and simulation (M&S) environments and core autonomy software. Your work is hands-on and technical, creating reusable, robust software patterns that abstract simulation details away from the core autonomy stack. Integration teams own program-level software integration; this role partners with and supports those teams by diagnosing framework, plugin, and interface issues in the simulation software the team designs and maintains.
You will write simulation plugins and software layers for DoD-recognized simulation backends including NGTS, AFSIM, Aechelon, HMSSimBlocks, and the emerging Hivemind Simulation Framework (HMSF). Rather than managing teams, you will focus on the hands-on execution of migrating HMSSimBlocks capabilities to HMSF—building baseline adapters, porting custom modules, and ensuring functional parity—while maintaining active support and backward compatibility for programs currently relying on HMSSimBlocks.
