  • The Role: A senior process engineer role supporting design and technical delivery for nuclear lifecycle projects requiring experience on highly regulated sites.
  • The Person: The person will produce design deliverables, provide specialist design services and technical guidance, supervise and develop team members, and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Requirements: Requires a BEng or MEng in Chemical Engineering, minimum five years' relevant experience on nuclear or highly regulated sites and chartered IChemE membership or equivalent experience.

Job Description

On behalf of our Client, we are recruiting for a Senior Process Engineer.

Location: Warrington or Abingdon (hybrid)

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will be responsible for: 

  • Providing specialist design services to internal/external customers.
  • The production of design deliverables (e.g. drawings, reports or calculations) to agreed standards of safety, cost, quality and time. 
  • Contributing to the economic design of systems and equipment. 
  • Overseeing the work of others and develop the skills and abilities of others for the benefit of the company. 
  • Providing advice and guidance on issues appropriate to their discipline. 
  • Actively participating in the development and application of appropriate technical and managerial processes and systems in teams work area. 
  • Organising, supervising, monitoring and developing the team to deliver successful outputs. 
  • Identifying major technical uncertainties and refer them for decision by higher authority.
  • Complying with all legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and processes applicable to the role.

Our Client operates across the entire "nuclear lifecycle"—essentially everything from the production of fuel to the cleaning up of old sites:

  • Decommissioning & Waste Management: They are a major partner for Sellafield Ltd, helping manage the transition of the site from reprocessing fuel to cleaning up and dismantling old facilities.
  • Specialist Engineering: They provide technical services in nuclear safety, shielding, dose assessment, and "human factors" (how people interact with nuclear systems).
  • Fuel Cycle Services: They supply enriched uranium to UK power stations like Hinkley Point C and Sizewell B and handle the logistics of transporting nuclear materials.
  • Plutonium Management: They support the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) in technical studies regarding the UK’s plutonium stockpile.

Requirements

Requirements

  • A BEng (Hons) or MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience as a Process Engineer, Chemical Engineer or Design Engineer on Nuclear site or a highly regulated site.
  • A chartered member of the IChemE or suitable experience.
  • Experience in supporting the production & development of process discipline documents and demonstrating the capability to work within a team.
  • Experience of delivering projects for Sellafield/AWE sites or highly regulated site.

Additional 

The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK, and be willing to undergo a security vetting process. Offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted. 
Travel to other offices and client sites may be necessary. You should be willing to work flexibly to accommodate project and client requirements.
