  • The Role:This role is for a developer supporting e-learning and digital learning services in a university learning and web services team.
  • The Person:The person will gather and prioritise user requirements, estimate development time, manage development projects from planning to completion, and write web applications for e-learning services.
  • Requirements:The ideal candidate has experience writing web applications using PHP 8+ or NextJS, good knowledge of SQL, experience with automated testing, and understanding of accessibility, equality, and GDPR legislation.

About the role

 

Grade UE07: £41,064 - £48,822 per annum, pro rata if part-time

Information Services Group (ISG) / Learning, Teaching and Web (LTW) / Digital Learning Applications and Media (DLAM)

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term: 12 months

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a e learning developer to join our team and contribute to teaching and learning in a world-leading centre of academic excellence. You will identify, understand and prioritise user requirements and estimate the development time needed for those requirements. They should have good experience of managing development projects from planning to completion. An understanding of accessibility, equality, and GDPR legislation is required.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience writing web applications using PHP 8+ or NextJS
  • Good knowledge of SQL
  • Experience with automated testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in working with users to collect and prioritise user requirements
  • The ability to prioritise their own workload and tasks for projects with competing deadlines

This post is full-time/ (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

We provide a wide range of technology and support services for innovative learning and teaching, including classroom tools, virtual learning environment (VLE), blended learning, bespoke development, online video, open educational resources (OER), taught online Masters programmes, massive open online courses (MOOCs), feedback and assessment. We manage the continuing expansion and diversification of the University website, student portal, and provide digital technology services in 400 teaching rooms and study spaces across the campus.    

Every year we host student internships, projects and events which promote innovation and align with the University strategic aims to promote new ways of working in learning, teaching and research.
