GRC, privacy, regulatory compliance, audit
The regulatory landscape is constantly changing and becoming increasingly complex, which means organisations of all sizes need strong compliance and risk management. Roles in this sector sit at the intersection of regulation, technology and business operations, and are steadily in demand.
Roles in Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) represent the broadest approach to the field, and cover the frameworks and processes that keep organisations aligned with legal and regulatory obligations. GRC roles range from analysts who build and maintain risk registers through to senior managers who oversee enterprise-wide compliance programmes. Frameworks and certifications such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF, SOC 2, and COBIT are often expected when hiring for GRC roles.
The advent of GDPR has meant a boom in roles that specialise in privacy, and with regulations evolving and expanding globally, these kinds of roles are only more in demand. This could look like a Data Protection Officer role, privacy analyst or privacy engineer, and these are particularly common in sectors handling personal data. Employees in this sector often require CIPP/E and CIPM certifications.
The financial services, healthcare and other heavily regulated sectors are a good place to look for regulatory compliance and audit roles. These require a really in-depth understanding of obligations and standards that are specific to the sector, and will need the ability to work closely with legal, finance and technology teams.
There are also roles at a higher, more strategic level, which require reporting to a board or C-suite, and are designed to help translate complex risk exposure into clear organisational decisions.
