Job Function:

Account Management and Growth

Job Subfunction:

Growth

Job Description:

Director, NA GROWTH

Reports to: EVP, NA New Business

Role Summary

The Director, Growth serves as a subject matter expert on business acquisition, partnering with other leaders in the agency’s pursuit of new clients. You are part strategist, part coach, part operator—responsible for elevating our growth capability across the organization. You serve as a subject matter expert on business development best practices, ensuring our approach is data-driven, our assets are compelling, ownership and accountability is clear and our people are equipped to compete and win at the highest level.

What You'll Own

Strategic Growth Counsel

Partner with pitch captains on new business pursuits, working alongside them to refine strategy, position our strengths, and mobilize the organization. Embed best practices—team casting, competitive positioning, chemistry building—into how we pitch. You will promote and bring forward best practices from various pitches to ensure our teams are functioning and selling at their highest level with the most compelling offering.

Growth Capability & Team Leadership

You will be part of a team of five (or more) dedicated to new business execution and enablement. In this capacity, you will be heavily involved telling our agency story in first round submissions, coordinating our creative responses, overseeing pitch operations, and bringing market insights to each opportunity. You will be a persuasive writer, have a keen editor’s eye, and model excellence in every deliverable.

Analytics & Agency Intelligence

As part of team deliverables, you will have a roll tracking and analyzing our new business results with rigor. This includes maintaining our pipeline database and conducting quarterly analysis that reveals what's working, what isn't, and what we need to adjust in our approach. We then turn these insights into actionable recommendations that inform how we position the agency and refine our growth strategy, and share findings with senior leadership to ensure decision-making is grounded in data.

Assets & Knowledge Management

You are up to date on cross-office talent, agency innovation, and examples of our very best work. You will play a role in maintaining a compelling library of assets—case studies, talent bios, service capabilities, thought leadership—that pitch teams rely on to be self-sufficient. Establish templates and systems that make it easy to keep content fresh and findable. Regularly surface best-in-class examples, industry trends, and competitive intelligence across the agency.

A Playbook O/S Mastery & Prospecting Guide

You are also as expert and champion of the Playbook O/S process, our internal collaboration guide for campaign planning and new business pursuits. In the role, you will help lead local account/pitch lead trainings to help create autonomy with teams at the local level. Additionally, you will help local leaders adapt the Playbook O/S to their market while maintaining consistency in approach.

You will support local offices and practices on their prospecting strategy and early-stage pipeline development, helping identify targets, refine positioning, and build compelling early-engagement strategies that set up successful pursuits.

What It Takes to Succeed

You bring experience in client service, agency life, and new business acquisition. You've been through enough RFI cycles and pitch processes to know what works and what doesn't. You understand earned and paid media approaches and can speak credibly about communications strategy. You're comfortable synthesizing information from multiple sources and translating it into crisp, compelling narratives.

You write and edit exceptionally well. Your proposals are engaging and persuasive. You can turn a jumbled brief from multiple stakeholders into clean, coherent copy that showcases the agency at its best. You catch inconsistencies, tighten language, and have an instinct for what resonates with a prospect.

You're detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture. You can manage a complex 30-person pitch while keeping focus on the story we're telling and the differentiation we're reinforcing. You stay calm under pressure, think clearly when things get chaotic, and have a competitive drive to win.

You're proactive, motivated, and comfortable working independently within a collaborative context. You don't wait to be told what to do; you see opportunities to improve our approach and you take them. You're fiercely competitive—you want to win and you push hard to get there—but fundamentally kind in how you approach the work, building people up rather than tearing them down. You have good instincts, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate the kind of polish and professionalism that reflects well on the agency in every interaction.

Experience & Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of experience in a client-service business or agency environment, with substantial involvement in new business development, pitch strategy, or growth initiatives.

Demonstrated success leading or managing new business teams, with proven ability to develop and coach others.

Proven track record of winning significant business or managing successful pitch programs.

Superior writing and editing skills with the ability to craft and refine persuasive, creative communications.

Experience with analytics, pipeline management, and translating data into strategic insights.

Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and at all levels of the organization.

What We Offer

A seat at the table in strategic growth decisions. You'll have direct access to agency leadership, and your insights and experience will help shape our business development strategy and market positioning.

Autonomy to improve how we do business development. You'll have ownership of processes, systems, and best practices—the latitude to test new approaches and implement what works.

Visibility and influence. This role is central to the agency's success. You'll be known across the organization as someone who raises the bar and gets results.

Real business impact. Every win that comes from a pitch you helped strategy or a team you led is success you can point to. This isn't a support function; it's the agencies lifeblood and growth engine.
