Digital marketing managers, marketing strategy, campaign management
Digital marketing and strategy covers a huge variety of jobs across lots of different sectors, whether that means working in an in-house team in a large organisation or in an agency, an early-stage company or a scale-up. It’s a wide-ranging discipline so job descriptions can vary a lot, which means it’s important that you know how to position your experience and which roles might suit you the best.
At a senior level, roles include Digital Marketing Director, Head of Digital and VP of Marketing. These are responsible for channel mix, guiding budgets and making sure the organisation’s marketing activity is aligned to commercial objectives. When applying for roles like these, hiring managers will be looking for candidates to show they have led integrated campaigns, worked closely with data and analytics teams and have experience of reporting performance to executive stakeholders.
Campaign managers are on the execution side of strategy, and co-ordinate activity across paid, owned and earned marketing channels. They manage the relationship between creative, media and analytics teams. It’s commonly expected that applicants for these roles will have familiarity with platforms such as Google Ads, Meta, HubSpot and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
If you’re applying for roles at organisations with complex customer journeys or who have a large international presence, it’s valuable to be able to show cross-channel and multi-market experience. Senior roles require knowledge of marketing attribution, customer lifetime value and the role of first-party data strategy.
